Types Of Waterfront Homes

It might surprise you to learn that the fascination we in North America have with waterfront living is not something universal. In many areas of the world, waterfront living is akin to being "on the wrong side of the tracks". In large part this is due to the fact that major waterways including rivers, lakes, and even oceans are generally major industrial areas, where pollution builds up and traffic is dense. In fact there used to be many vacant waterfront properties in Ontario and other highly populated regions of the continent until quite recently, for exactly those reasons.

That, however, was a fact from a different age. Today, waterfront property is in very high demand all over the continent. Owning a piece of real estate that overlooks almost any body of water means you have a home that is higher value than similar property without the shore view. It does not matter whether we are talking Fenelon Falls cottages or Windsor condominiums, property overlooking water is in high demand.

In this series of articles, we are going to be taking a look at the many different types of waterfront homes available. Specifically, we will be putting the retirement living spin when considering the options anyone has for waterfront living. For many, spending the golden years within view of a large body of water is the very epitome of relaxed living.

The trick lies in determining which type of property is best for you. Making the right choice is a common theme amongst all retirees, no matter where they may live in the world. You don't have the benefit of time should you make an error in judgment at this stage; once put your Scarborough home for sale and move out to cottage country, odds are you will be there to stay. Your decision will not just be guided by the ideal vision for your retirement home, but also by what is practical within your budget, so expect to find a lot of money based information in these articles as well. In some cases, we will take a look at how being a part of certain organizations (such as the Sutton member's program) can help make your retirement home decision more economically viable.
